Here’s Juan and Milo’s photo shoot at Punta Baja, a jutting peninsula that’s a rocky drive from El Rosario.

After leaving El Rosario, we crossed Parallelo 28 into Baja California Sur, which is one hour ahead of Baja California. We spent the night in a barren RV lot behind Mario’s in Guerrero Negro, our favorite place to stop and rest with good food and WiFi. We’ve never seen anyone else in the place. They also have some really nice dogs there. Milo loved it there.

After lunch in San Ignacio, this oasis where we camped last year next to a lake full of bullfrogs, we powered past Mulege and made it to the Sea of Cortes to my favorite beach, El Requeson, 45 km south. I love it because it is pretty quiet (as far as beaches just next to the highway go) and has this cool sandbridge leading to a small island with tiny patches of mangroves.

We thought this would be a good starter beach for the pup, who, as it turns out, is not really into swimming.

This is what success looks like.

Thanks Jim and Enrique for our awesome Baja hammocks! They are working out fantastically!

In the morning I had fresh clams! As in, FRESH. They cracked them open right there, squeezed some lime juice on them with some hot sauce and yum. Breakfast of champions.

It was so hot in the afternoon that we had to break camp to get indoors. In the evening we camped closer north to Mulege at Los Cocos, chosen solely because half of the beach was in the shade of a mountain when we got there. Milo showed off his newfound swimming skills.

We are covered in bites and it’s so hot that we can barely speak from 11-4. But we love Baja.

  1. We have similar tastes in beaches! Looks amazing! Are you reading anything good right now while it’s too hot to speak?

    1. Reeeekeeee! Just finished Mario Vargas Llosa’s “Travesuras de la niƱa mala,” but I read it in English. It was awesome. Did you know he and I have the same birthday? Xoxoxo
