We are finally in Mazatlán, where the adventure really begins. We both love Baja, but in some ways it feels like one is too protected there, like in an extension of the US. I think we were both looking forward to starting the real exploration.

First we stayed a couple of nights in La Paz, for a visit to Rogelio’s shop, where Rafa installed new H4 headlights on the Pony.  Not that we plan to drive at night, but it’s nice to have a car that can illuminate the road instead of just shining so other cars can avoid you.

Then on Wednesday we headed to the port, where we got the temporary importation permit for the van so we can drive in mainland Mexico, and then were told that the ferry was full. We were able to get tickets anyway after waiting a bit, it seems like some people have reservations and then don’t show up.

The ferry was eighteen hours, but it was quite pleasant. Milo was quite popular with the other passengers.

Milo made lots of friends during the ferry ride.

We popped the top of the Pony and slept among trucks and semis.

In the morning, we had dolphins follow us a couple of times
