We spent July in the north suburbs of Chicago, at Steph’s parents’ house, among other things, working on the Westy.
Here are some of the improvements we made:
– Took out the fridge. This might not seem like an improvement, but the Dometic fridge, with its early 80s technology, gets about 40 degrees Fahrenheit (about 22˚ C) colder than ambient temperature. In the tropics this still means warm beer, so the fridge had to go.
In its place we got a lot of storage space:
– Installed a house battery, a few 12V outlets, and made a laptop/camera charging station:
– Made new carpet for the front and for the inside of the closets:
– And installed a new tent, with Steph’s favorite, the triangular side windows:
In San Francisco and before we leave for the border, the Westy will get a transmission rebuild. And on the way down south, we’ll stop by GoWesty and get a spare tire carrier, so we can have two spares.
