Happy Birthday to Van en Van’s Top Commenter: MY BEAUTIFUL MOTHER.
On her birthday, I would like to recognize all the things she has given me, among them:
an appreciation ( if not a deep knowledge) of nature
A bleeding heart for hungry souls
A love of family
As we head toward the six-month mark of our trip, I need to acknowledge that my mother has always given me the best kind of advice in life, travel, and otherwise. Some of my favorite travel tips of hers are:
–pack crappy clothes that you are ready to toss to make room for other things (like souvenirs)
–take with a bit of laundry detergent to wash undergarments
–NOBODY CARES WHAT YOU’RE WEARING EXCEPT YOU (unless you are being immodest in a conservative country–always bring a cover-up)
–waiting is part of travel; bring a book!
So Happy Birthday to the best mom ever. I love you and miss you and can’t wait to see you!
