We had heard about this shop for a while, and my plan was to drop by anyway for a general checkup. It turns out we ended up having to come, to replace a couple of CV joints.
The place is like any self respecting VW shop should be–full of vans and buses parked all around. Rogelio, the owner, has been working on Volkswagens for about forty years. Here is him with a photograph of his younger self, in the 70s in Cupertino, with a couple of bugs:
He’s evidently proud of his work. This bay window was awesome–roof racks, bigger wheels. It seemed ready to go on a trip down the Americas.
We left the Pony there for some axle love, a tire rotation, oil change and to fix the windshield washer sprayer, that had stopped working a few days earlier.
Because of the lift in the rear, the non-stock CV joints they installed didn’t seem too happy in the van. So we had to come back to get originals in. I was amazed at how good the service was–as soon as he saw me coming back, Rogelio dropped everything he was doing and put one of his guys to work on the Pony, while personally overseeing the work himself.
Here’s the Pony, next to E, The Dangerz bus, which was getting some speedometer love at the same time.
All in all, Geraldo VWs is a great shop, and Rogelio a stand up guy. We’re going back there before leaving La Paz–to get a couple of spare parts to carry with us, and an upgrade for our dim headlights.

Hi Stephanie and Juan!
My names Kellee, you met my boyfriend Jamie this afternoon in Cerritos. I just wanted to drop you a line and see if you were planning on heading back through Todos Santos before going back to La Paz. Maybe we could meet up and grab a drink or something. We can discuss the ferry dog situation. :) Either way I look forward to following your blog and am sure we’ll run into each other in the future.
Hasta Pronto,
Kellee
