The closest we got to the end of the world, it seems, was a cop knocking on the van at 4 in the morning, politely asking us to please move because there’s going to be an event in this block.

Word in the street was that hundreds of thousands of visitors in Chitchen-Itza were expected, and that people were afraid of gas shortages in the area. We just made sure to get the tank filled, which gives us enough gas to make it to Akumal where we’ll spend the holidays, so we are fine. When we filled up though, a couple of people ahead of us were filling jugs of gas.

So since today I’m sure would be crazy, we went to Chitchen-Itza yesterday:
